গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত সংবাদে জানা গেছে, কোন এক আইনজীবী মঙ্গল শোভাযাত্রা বন্ধের জন্য আইনি নোটিস পাঠিয়েছেন। একে সংবিধানের সাথে সাংঘর্ষিক, একটি বিশেষ ধর্মের সাথে সম্পর্কযুক্ত বলে উল্লেখ করাসহ দেশের সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ মানুষের অনুসৃত ধর্মের জন্য অবমাননাকর বলেও দাবি তার। এ ধরনের অমূলক এবং ভিত্তিহীন আইনি নোটিস প্রদানের তীব্র নিন্দা ও প্রতিবাদ জানাচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ উদীচী শিল্পীগোষ্ঠী। এক প্রতিবাদলিপিতে উদীচী কেন্দ্রীয় সংসদের সভাপতি অধ্যাপক বদিউর রহমান এবং সাধারণ সম্পাদক অমিত রঞ্জন দে বলেন, উদীচী দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ^াস করে এই আইনি নোটিস প্রদান মূলত বাংলা বর্ষবরণ আয়োজনকে বাধাগ্রস্ত করার জন্য মৌলবাদী, ধর্মান্ধ গোষ্ঠীর যে ধারাবাহিক অপচেষ্টা তারই অংশমাত্র।
বিবৃতিতে উদীচীর সভাপতি ও সাধারণ সম্পাদক বলেন, যে ব্যক্তি ‘মঙ্গল’ শব্দটিকে কোন একটি বিশেষ ধর্মের শব্দ বলে আখ্যায়িত করতে পারেন তিনি যে আবহমান বাঙলার ঐতিহ্যবাহী অসাম্প্রদায়িক চেতনাকে ধারণ করেন না তা স্পষ্টভাবেই বোঝা যায়। আর এমন চিন্তাধারা সশস্ত্র মুক্তিযুদ্ধের মাধ্যমে প্রতিষ্ঠিত বাংলাদেশের সংবিধানের চার মূলনীতির চেতনার সাথেও অসামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ। তাই এই আইনি নোটিস প্রদানের মাধ্যমে প্রকৃতপক্ষে ওই আইনজীবীই রাষ্ট্রবিরোধী কাজ করেছেন বলে মনে করে উদীচী। অবিলম্বে ওই আইনজীবীকে শাস্তির আওতায় আনা এবং তার আইনজীবী সনদ বাতিলের দাবি জানিয়েছে উদীচী।
রাজধানী ছাড়াও যশোর, বরিশালসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলা ও উপজেলা শহরে উদীচীর উদ্যোগে অপরাপর প্রগতিশীল রাজনৈতিক, সাংস্কৃতিক ও সামাজিক সংগঠনগুলোকে সাথে নিয়ে বহু বছর ধরে মহাসমারোহে বাংলা বর্ষবরণ উৎসব উদযাপন হয়ে আসছে বলে বিবৃতিতে উল্লেখ করেন অধ্যাপক বদিউর রহমান ও অমিত রঞ্জন দে। তারা জানান, এবছরও সে আয়োজন শুধু অব্যাহতই থাকবে না, বরং তার ব্যপ্তি আরো বৃদ্ধি পাবে। যতো বাধাই আসুক, বাংলার ঐতিহ্যবাহী সংস্কৃতি রক্ষার সে পথ থেকে উদীচীকে সরানো যাবে না। কোন ধর্মান্ধ, মৌলবাদী অপশক্তির চক্রান্তের কাছে মাথা নত করে বাংলার সাধারণ মানুষ এদেশের সবচেয়ে বড় অসাম্প্রদায়িক উৎসব পালন থেকে কখনোই পিছিয়ে আসবে না বলেও বিবৃতিতে উল্লেখ করেন উদীচীর সভাপতি ও সাধারণ সম্পাদক। এছাড়া, এ বিষয়ে সব প্রগতিশীল সাংস্কৃতিক সংগঠনকে সোচ্চার ভূমিকা পালনের আহ্বানও জানিয়েছেন তারা।
বুদ্ধিজীবী হত্যাকাণ্ডের বিচারের রায় দ্রুত কার্যকরের দাবি জানিয়ে গান, আবৃত্তি, নাচের মাধ্যমে বিনম্র শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসায় শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবীদের স্মরণ করলো বাংলাদেশ উদীচী শিল্পীগোষ্ঠী। জাতির সূর্য সন্তানদের হত্যার দিন, ১৪ ডিসেম্বর বুধবার বিকাল ৫টায় উদীচী চত্বরে (১৪/২, তোপখানা রোড, জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবের বিপরীতে) আয়োজন করা হয় স্মরণ অনুষ্ঠান। শুরুতেই “আগুনের পরশমণি ছোঁয়াও প্রাণে” এবং “মুক্তির মন্দির সোপান তলে” গান দুটি সমবেতভাবে পরিবেশন করেন উদীচীর শিল্পীরা। এরপর শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবীদের স্মরণে এক মিনিট নীরবতা পালন করা হয়।
